Like many people in the Canine world, Peter's association with purebred dogs can be traced back to his families association with Irish Setters, Standard Poodles and Dachshunds many years ago.
After establishing a career in aviation, Peter returned to purebred dogs in the early 1990’s and established a small, yet highly successful kennel, breeding under the Greysouthen prefix. Concentrating on Gundogs and in particular Retrievers & Weimaraners, his Greysouthen Kennel has produced numerous Australian & International, Grand & Supreme Champions amongst them MBISS Aust. Grand Ch: Greysouthen Kings Legend ET QC TD, a multiple All Breeds Best in Show and Royal Show winner, a prolific sire, an accomplished Field, Tracking and Endurance dog and arguably one of the finest all-round Weimaraners bred in Australia in the last 25 years. Along the way, Peter has exhibited, handled or titled a number of other Gundog breeds, including Curly Coat, Golden, Labrador, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, & Tollers, Cockers, GSPs, English Pointers, Springers, Setters and Continental Gundogs. He also has an interest in Dalmatians, Great Danes, British Bulldogs & Standard Poodles. In recent years, along with his love of Weimaraners, Peter has concentrated on Flat Coat Retrievers and his current dogs are ranked as the top Flat Coats in Australia. For Peter, the progression to judging was a natural step. He has earned a solid reputation judging at All Breeds and Specialty Shows across most States of Australia, both islands of New Zealand & around South East Asia. He is a regular visitor to the Pacific region, and to FCI CACIB events in Europe, Scandinavia and The Baltics. He is readily acknowledged for his friendliness, his keen eye for a quality dog, especially youngsters, his depth of knowledge of Gundog breeds, their form, function and inherent qualities. In 2016 Peter was honored with judging the New Zealand Weimaraner National Show and attracted the largest entry of Weimaraners ever seen in that country. He has judged numerous Specialty Shows covering a variety of Gundog (Sporting Group) and Non-Sporting breeds in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Italy, The Benelux countries and The Baltics Peter is a Specialist Judge, fully approved to award Championships and judge Best in Show for all Gundog breeds (FCI 7 & 8) as well as all Non-Sporting Group, well over 60 breeds in total. He is also approved to judge Toys at Open Show level as well as Handler Classes. Outside of the show ring, Peter’s interests include Tracking, Endurance, Field Retrieving and rough shooting during the winter season. He is past President of the Weimaraner Club of Queensland and is currently President of the Northern Gundog Society of NSW and Show Manager for the United Retriever Club. Peter serves on the Executive of several leading Canine organizations & committees in Australia and is a highly experienced Ring Steward, Royal Show Official and commentator at the prestigious Sydney Royal Show (the largest dog show in the Southern Hemisphere). Peter lectures and mentors on various breeds for Judges Training in several States, is a regular contributor to number of canine publications and magazines around the world and is a popular guest on radio and television where he provides specialist commentary on a variety of Gundog breeds. He is a very keen traveller and has been a licensed Pilot for over 40 years. |
