Biography
Ken Murray showed his first dog in 1959 at the Texas Kennel Club and that became the beginning of a lifelong love of the Irish Setter breed and the sport of showing dogs.

During his teenage years, growing up in Dallas, Texas, he handled the finished numerous Irish Setters for the famous Draherin kennels and English Springer Spaniels for LeeVee Kennels.

In 1968, he was granted a professional handler license from the AKC, but gave it up a year later to move to Chicago to work as an assistant handler for the legendary Dick and Ruth Cooper. Ken won 23 BIS’s and a Kennel Review “Winkie” award for Best Assistant Handler in his first few years with the Coopers. In 1978 he met his wife Virginia and they started their own successful handling business.

They showed many big winning dogs over the years and won four Top sporting Dog of the Year awards. Mr. Murray handled the Gordon Setter, Ch. Bit 'O Gold Titan Treasure, to three consecutive Sporting Group wins at Westminster Kennel Club in 1997, 1998 and 1999.

In 2005, he retired from handling to concentrate on his boarding kennel business and judging. He currently judges the entire Sporting, Hound, Working and Toy groups and the majority of the Non-sporting group.

He has judged in U.S., China, Japan, Columbia and Mexico.

He and his wife, Virginia, currently live in Island Lake, Illinois with several Portuguese Water Dogs.
