Biography

Since I was born into a family which bred and showed Akita dogs, I naturally became interested in dog shows. I treasured going to dog shows as one of my weekend enjoyments in my youth. Back then in Japan, the TV series “Lassie” was extremely popular attracting me to Collies. The joy and excitement of having my own Collie as a member of the family still stays with me. Later on I witnessed Shelties at a show and literally fell in love with them and have been so for more than 30 years.

In 1980 I owned my first Sheltie (sable female) bred by one of the leading breeders in my country. Then in 1982, I bred my first Shelties. Since then, Shelties have been my only breed producing many JKC champions.

The first National I attended was in Ontario, CA in 1989. It was a culture shock but also of great excitement for me. I saw the very best Shelties and truly wonderful breeders and handlers there. The impression they gave me, made me who I am now. They changed my life with their love of Shelties. Since then, I go to see Nationals almost every year.

In 2015, at the National in Fredericksburg, VA, my co-breeder co-owner Mainstay Magic Mike won first place as a Bred by Exhibitor. My own bred Merry Joy Laulea won second place as an Open Blue Bitch. She also received BOS at Westminster and is highly recognized, not only in Japan, but also in the US. She presently has the title of MBISS GrAMCH Merry Joy Laulea. I am very proud of her.

In 2006 I earned my judging license for the herding group including Shelties and Collies, and since then I have been active as both a judge and breeder. At the same time, I am busy being involved as a member of the board for many specialty shows.
