| In the UK there are 7 Groups of show dogs and Howard is passed for 5 of them and on the cusp for the
remaining 2. In addition he is passed for all breeds BIS and is a Championship show judge of 85+
breeds across all 7. He remains the youngest ever Crufts judge, invited aged just 22! His Beauview Griffon Bruxellois are known worldwide with 7x BOB owned or bred @Crufts, making history in 2011 with the 1st b/t to top the breed. He has judged Griffon specialties from Australia/NZ to USA via Russia, Belarus, Cz and Scandinavia, hence the Griffon Club of Canada are delighted to have him judging their inaugural Specialty and delivering his renowned breed lecture that demonstrates & differentiates the breeds' roots, comprising the Affenpinscher, Pug and King Charles (to be royally topical!) He "skived off" school to make up his 1st Champion in 1971, having spent 3 summer holidays at the breeders' learning the ropes of feeding, trimming, whelping and picking up "the proverbial". A defence crime lawyer by trade, Howard was the man to defend you if you were hauled up before the KC Disciplinary Committee and he later Chaired the Canine Alliance formed to support those breeds that were initially singled out, one Crufts, as unable to claim their BOB, nor compete in the Group, w/o passing a veterinary check. Now retired, and even Griffonless, he seeks to concentrate on his judging education, expressing the view it is a "continuous learning curve" whereas, as a teenager, he reckoned to know everything of course! |
